Steve Nash Youth Basketball & Technical Director Nick Diem
Steve Nash Youth Basketball is a national youth basketball initiative designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love for the game of basketball. This grassroots program supports and empowers community-based recreational groups and facilities, schools and other institutions across Canada in an effort to positively influence youth through basketball. The goal of the program is to allow participants the opportunity to maximize their potential, while promoting the importance of youth basketball as a vehicle to build character, discipline and self-esteem.
Basketball NWT Technical Director Nick Diem will be traveling to six communities throughout the Northwest Territories to conduct player development camps and coaching development clinics in the schools during the physical education classes, as well as in the evenings and weekends during community gymnasium time. Nick will bring the Steve Nash Youth Basketball program to each community.
During Nick's weeklong stay in each community, he will be actively recruiting and training members of the community to run the Steve Nash Youth Basketball program after his departure. Steve Nash Youth Basketball and Basketball NWT will give the volunteer coaches from the communities the opportunity to receive Canada Basketball and Coaching Association of Canada sanctioned educational opportunities through the New NCCP Community Coach model and curriculum.
During the coaching development clinics in the schools, teachers who now conduct the daily physical education classes will work with Nick to develop their coaching techniques. In the evenings, the Steve Nash Youth Basketball program will continue with player and coaching development divided into two sessions. On the weekend, Nick will run daily sessions on coaching & player development.
